This is why people leave the city. This is where the rivers run wild and free, the roads wind their way through cool, quiet forests, and the blue Appalachians rise all around you in the morning mist. It's a hiker's dream, a paddler's paradise, and not half bad even when what you want to do is nothing more than sit on a cabin porch for a while and listen to the murmur of a stream.
It's a place where small shops are filled with antiques and collectibles, arts and local crafts. And where small-town hospitality is absolutely real. The natives call it the Copper Basin, this small but adventure-packed corner where Tennessee meets Georgia and they both meet up with North Carolina.
